Remember when the main character went to the beach in the latest episode of that show you like so much ? Remember the shot of people in swimwear rollerblading down the boardwalk before the main character arrived? Yep that's right...it was stock footage. Once royalty free footage is purchased it can be used as much as you want in as many productions as you'd like. There are websites that sell free royalty free videos, images, and music as individual products or bundles. Other websites provide unlimited access to footage via download with a paid membership. Pond5.com has a wide range of royalty free audio, and video media that will satisfy your hunger for footage. They actually claim to have the web's largest collection of royalty-free video...and they may be right. The company which was incorporated in 2007 is based out of the Big Apple (New York, NY). Pond5.com is basically a marketplace for video makers. I.E. it's a place to buy and sell footage. Pond5.com receives the footage from seller, the seller sets the price, and Pond5.com hosts it on their website. Individuals receive a 50% commission on their 5 to 30 second video footage. Individuals who need stock footage can purchase it at a fair price. This is a great concept for sellers and buyers alike because the prices are set based on the amount of competition that exists for the footage. This helps to keep the price down based on what type of footage is needed. Footage on the website can sell for as little as $2 for audio and $5 for video. Many clips are between $5 and $20. Once a purchase is made the footage can be downloaded directly from the website. The quality of the clips depends on the submitter and Pond5.com's agreement to place the clip on the site.
